LTTE Distracts United Nations with Propaganda

This letter mailed to the Ambassador Rosemary DiCarlo on March 27, 2009

To: Ambassador Rosemary DiCarlo
Alternate Representative to the U.N.
United States Mission to the United Nations
140 East 45th Street
New York, N.Y. 10017

Dear Ambassador DiCarlo,

As a Sri Lankan American living in the Los Angeles, California who has lived in Sri Lanka for over 20 years, I have studied the situation on the island for the last 26 years. My frequent travels to this beautiful island and my long running friendships with residents in Sri Lanka have kept me informed about the realties on the ground. Sri Lanka is a thriving democracy with a very compassionate people and full of potential. Unfortunately, this nation has faced the full brunt of the world’s most brutal terrorist organization, the LTTE, for the last 30 years. While fighting this internationally funded and armed terror group, Sri Lanka has done her best to develop as a progressive nation and care for all its citizens.

You commented on March 26, 2009 about the "deteriorating humanitarian situation in Sri Lanka." But you offered little to fully rectify the root of the problem. That is to globally eliminate the LTTE that caused this humanitarian situation in the first place. Don’t you think that if the internationally financed and armed Tamil Tiger terrorists had fewer resources, there will be no deteriorating humanitarian situation in the first place?

The Ambassador DiCarlo states: "We are very concerned that the Government of Sri Lanka continues its shelling of areas where there are large number of civilians very close to hospitals, very close to civilian facilities. We understand that quite a number of civilians have perished because of these attacks." This false statement was pushed initially by the LTTE worldwide and later picked up by UN Human Rights Commissioner Ms. Navi Pillay. From images of the human shield we know that the Tamil Tiger terrorists are firing deadly artillery right next to hospitals and civilians. International organizations and governments have done almost nothing genuinely to stop this LTTE atrocity. They do have the ability to take significant actions against the Tiger terrorists since the LTTE survives from international aid and maintains operations worldwide. So why such inaction on our part while we nag the Government of Sri Lanka?

Tamilnet feeds lies to the media I would like to ask Ambassador DiCarlo the true source of this information about shelling by the Sri Lankan Government. For some time, the Tamil Tiger terror Web site Tamilnet has been feeding the media and the U.N. Human Rights Commissioner about these false allegations. There is absolutely no evidence on the ground to prove that Sri Lanka did anything wrong, except fight the brutal terrorists while safeguarding civilians escaping the LTTE human shield. When the U.S. Alternate Representative to the U.N. make statements based on LTTE propaganda, it undermines the credibility of the United States in the U.N. and globally.

LTTE using UN to halt military offensive This image of the Web site of the LTTE in Canada shows the TamilCanadian using your U.N. statements in an attempt to halt the military offensive against the terrorists that will enable the LTTE to recruit more civilians from their hostages, rearm and return with more terror attacks on civilians. I sincerely hope that is NOT what the United States and the U.N. wants. We need to realize the true motive behind all the false information spread by the Tiger terrorists.

As an American citizen, I am deeply concerned by our government officials been misled by the Tamil Tiger terror propaganda machine. Our nation takes pride in our commitment to truth and justice. Similarly, the U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. has an obligation to the world to make sure that she uses credible and accurate sources before making such outrages allegations. Her failure to do so truly undermines the United State’s agenda in the U.N. and losses the respect other nations has for us as a just leader.

On March 25, 2009, LTTE terrorists fired surface-to-air-missiles (SAM) at two helicopters in No Fire Zone. "LTTE terrorists have reportedly fired surface-to-air-missiles (SAM) at two Sri Lankan Air Force Bell- 212 helicopters, engaged in casualty evacuation operations in general area Puthukudiyirippu today (March 25) at around 11 a.m."

We need to get this information to the U.N. officials.

The U.S Ambassador goes onto say that the "Government of Sri Lanka must pay more attention to protecting the civilian population in this conflict" ignoring the enormous efforts made by the Sri Lankan Government as she speaks. We need to admit that most supplies to those camps and centers are provided by the government and not by aid groups. Hospitals in the conflict zones, even the ones in the terror-held areas are mostly supplied by Sri Lankan government with taxpayer money. How did we overlook all that at the U.N.?

Not one word was said about the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Sir John Holmes who toured the civilian shelters in February and said he was very satisfied with the way the Sri Lankan government is handling the humanitarian situation in the IDP centers. How did the U.N. miss the statements made by its own Under-Secretary-General?

I ask you to ignore the propaganda spread globally by the LTTE and look objectively at the facts. You will see that Sri Lanka has bent over backwards to take serious steps to safeguard the rights of internally displaced persons and ensure an effective humanitarian response. Every single day, we see reports of how civilians are fed, medically cared for and secured. The rights groups never acknowledge that.

Read about how over one thousand Tamil civilians reached government controlled area seeking safety: Civilians reach government controlled area

While we are preoccupied with criticizing the Government of Sri Lanka, the Tamil Tiger Terrorists killed and burned innocent Tamil civilians fleeing the human shield. I quote: "Tigers make sure that those who try to escape into government declared safe zones are mercilessly killed, mostly burnt alive and the corpses are displayed as a deterrent to others who would try to escape. These photos were taken by a brave Tamil who managed to escape to a safe zone only last week."

I have included a couple of pictures here for you:

This link contains GRUESOME images of these atrocities committed by the LTTE: See what the LTTE did to Tamil civilians trying to flee their human shield (spur.asn.au)

Many Muslims were forced to flee their homes to escape fighting in 1990 because of the LTTE Terrorists’ campaign of ethnic cleansing. These civilians have been thrown out of their ancestral land by the Tamils to create the 'Tamil homeland'. Once the LTTE is eliminated and their genocidal drive is extinguished, these Muslims can go back to the land they once inhabited. Hope you and the U.N. will do everything in your power to assist Sri Lanka get rid of the LTTE who committed these acts of genocide.

As you can see from above, the most obvious threat to civilians and their welfare is the LTTE. If you get rid of it, there will definitely be peace, economic prosperity and opportunities for all. Consider the Eastern Province. Once it was a stronghold of the Tiger Terrorists where the population was brutalized by the LTTE with no elections or democracy. The Sri Lankan government drove the LTTE out of this province and held elections. Next we see are economic opportunities for its residents, hand-in-hand with democratic rights. The LTTE is doing everything in its power to stop that in the North and extend the conflict.

With all this ridiculously false LTTE propaganda been fed to our US Senators, Congressmen, U.S. Secretary of State, human rights groups, U.N. Human Rights Commissioner and now to the U.S. Representative at the U.N., how can we ever expect to hear anything truthful and constructive said and done about this situation? It is startling how bogus incidents generated by the LTTE can be spread globally by the Tamils Diaspora supportive of the LTTE and further taken up by 'legitimate' organizations to harm a democracy, undercut its efforts to take care of its citizens and undermine the well being of Tamil civilians.

Let me summarize all of the above for you: the obvious winners here are the Tamil Tiger Terrorists who run a successful global campaign to attack Sri Lanka. The losers are the innocent civilians in all parts of Sri Lanka who are been threatened, attacked, shot and even brunt alive by the LTTE. I am extremely disappointed at the way my hard earned tax dollars are been spent by the U.S. government. I honestly hope that this is not the change we were promised.

We Americans really need to see the truth, get our ducks straight and let go of the Tiger’s tail, quickly.
Yes we can do better!
